Fast & Furious Supercharges Universal Backlot Tour

Thought you knew the Universal Studios Backlot tram tour? Think again! Starting June 25th, 2015, the backlot tour is getting supercharged. A brand new rides section takes tram tour riders into the world of the Fast & Furious films. Complete with guest appearances by Fast & Furious actors such as Vin Diesel, Luke Evans, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, and Michelle Rodriguez, you’ll be hanging on tight as you are shaken, rattled, and rolled through this thrilling high-speed adventure!

The technology used to bring this experience to park guests is top-of-the-line. The film portion of your adventure will be projected onto the world’s longest 3D screen, and set to the dulcet tones of over 80,000 watts of sound. Special effects accompany the film including mist, fire, smoke, water, and wind to simulate the tram traveling at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.

As the tramcar pulls into the brand new 65,000 square-foot building (the structure is approximately 800 feet long and six stories tall; all that speed takes up a lot of space!), it will be enwrapped by a circular screen (almost 400 feet long and 40 feet high). For the duration of the attraction, the tramcar sits atop a 200-foot-long motion simulator. The simulator will create movement in the tram such as pitch, undulation, vibration, and roll in order to create the sensation of collisions, flying misses, and errant shrapnel. The entire illusion is powered by forty-eight projectors and over fifty speakers; quite a lot of juice to bring this action/adventure to life right before your eyes.

The ride creators are extremely excited about its public launch. Universal Creative executive producer Chick Russell even admitted that they had to “tone things down” in this ride simply because tram riders don’t wear seatbelt during the backlot tour. If that isn’t a promise to fulfill anyone’s need for speed, we just don’t know what is! Even if you’ve been before, you’ve never seen Universal Studios like you’ll see it this summer; it’s definitely time for a visit to everyone’s favorite Hollywood attraction.
