iHeart Radio Music Awards 2014
Get ready — music’s most unique awards show, the first-ever iHeart Radio Music Awards, will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2014 in Los Angeles. NBC will air the event live from the historic Shrine Auditorium, but those already in the area–and those who plan to be in Los Angeles–will not want to miss the opportunity to be a part of the excitement, energy and history of this one-of-a-kind awards show.
If you haven’t yet experienced the magic that is iHeart Radio, you may be wondering what makes this awards show so different. John Sykes, who serves as President of Entertainment Enterprises for Clear Channel (the company who brought us iHeart Radio) said this in a recent statement: “The iHeart Radio Music Awards will be the first awards show in history to reflect America’s favorite music, and which is truly empowered by the people.”
The awards show has been created as a strong reflection of iHeart Radio’s central concept of delivering, via the internet, the musical or other audio content that listeners want to hear. Music, as well as national and entertainment news options, are delivered to iHeart Radio listeners online, through the iHeart Radio mobile app and via popular gaming consoles.
But the biggest reason why music lovers will want to be in the Los Angeles area is because this awards show will celebrate today’s top artists from several genres, as determined by you–the fans! Nominees were determined by airplay performance data, the number of times fans gave a song or artist the “thumbs up” online, the number of customized stations on the site and the buzz fans have created for their favorite artist or band on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. Beyond all of that, the fans are in control of the artists who win! Yes, you read that right–the fans determine the winners… and rightfully so.
The show will feature 13 awards categories, including Best New Artist, Best Lyrics, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, EDM Song of the Year, Country Song of the Year, Alternative Rock Song of the Year, Hip-Hop/R&B Song of the Year and Best Collaboration, among others. While fans anxiously anticipate who will walk away with the top award in each category, they will enjoy sensational live performances, including “never-before-seen collaborations” and appearances from other celebrity guests.
Show organizers are keeping mum on the specifics of the performance lineup, but if the Artist of the Year nominees (Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Imagine Dragons and Rihanna) are any indication, it will be a thrilling and unforgettable evening.
