LA Restaurant Week is Here!
Los Angeles. The city famous for being famous. You come for the sun, the surf, and the stars. But trust me, it’s the food you’ll love and with restaurant week right around the corner, you will need to get ready to loosen your belt.
dineLA is putting on its annual showcase of the best and most vibrant eats this side of the Mississippi. For almost a full two-weeks (July 13th-26th), 350 of the city’s best restaurants will offer prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus all over town from DTLA to Beverly Hills, from Malibu to the valley. The best part? Chefs and restaurant owners see restaurant week as their chance to bring in new customers and build a fan base. This means that they are pulling out the stops and strutting their stuff. You will get their best dishes, prepared in their most innovative new styles using their best ingredients and it will be for cheaper than you would get it any other time. And let me tell you, the best that LA chefs have to offer? It’s incredible.
In the 234 year history of Los Angeles, food has never been this exciting because the city has never been this diverse. Everyone knows that Mexican culture has become synonymous southern California and for us foodies, that means authentic Mexican food so damn good it’ll make granny Martha cry “Arriba!” Our opinion? Any place offering a weekend posole is a good benchmark to a legit Mexican affair.
But for all that LA is famous for its Latino culture, the vibrant and diverse Asian community can give it a run for its money. Translation? Incredible chow in Chinatown. Restaurants like Sam Woo and Philippe the Original are classic powerhouses on the culinary scene, but be sure to check out the East Chinatown hotspot of celeb chef Roy Choi. The man who started the food truck revolution is no stranger to brick and mortar and his bowl-based eatery, Chego!, will stun with its Ooey Gooey Fries and Sriracha bar.
If you are heading into Museum row, check out the all-stars in the Fairfax area. My favorite? Animal. This dinner only joint is a perfect tribute to the quintessence of LA cuisine. Combining Asian, Mexican, and American styles, dishes like the Hamachi tostada and chicken liver pate will have you booking your next reservation before your entrée is even done.
dinaLA’s website can guide you in finding the right restaurant for your tastes, but whatever they may be, do not miss this incredible opportunity to gorge yourself on some of the most decadent, exciting, mind-blowing, authentic, revolutionary food in the country.
