The Rams Return to Los Angeles

It’s a big year for football in the City of Angels, to say the least. The Rams have come home to Los Angeles—their stomping grounds from 1946 to 1994—after more than two decades in the wilderness of St. Louis. The preseason is just about to kick off, so come stay with us at the Hotel Amarano and take in this historic year of LA gridiron action!

Rams Backstory: A Geography Primer

Across their 80-year history, the Rams have covered an awful lot of territory. They started off in 1936 in Cleveland, where, nine years later, they won their first NFL championship. The next season, in 1946, the team migrated to Los Angeles and prestigious new headquarters at the Memorial Coliseum. In 1951, the Rams triumphed in another NFL Championship Game; in 1980, on the heels of their 31-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Superbowl XIV, the team moved to Anaheim Stadium.

The 1995 season saw the Rams pulling up stakes from Southern California and beginning their incarnation as a St. Louis football team. The high point of this “Gateway to the West” chapter came at Super Bowl XXXIV in January 2000, when the Rams earned their third NFL championship by downing the Tennessee Titans 23-16.

The Rams’ return to Los Angeles, finalized this past January, comes as new digs for them are being constructed over in Inglewood: The City of Champions Stadium is slated to open in 2019. Until then, the team will be on familiar (and hoary) ground: The Memorial Coliseum, where the Rams last played back in 1979.

Experience the Rams’ Homecoming

The momentous move back to LA isn’t the only significant element to the Rams’ 2016 run. The team’s also starring in the popular NFL/HBO documentary series Hard Knocks, which chronicles the sagas of training camp and other preparations for the season.

Led by head coach Jeff Fisher—and featuring starting quarterback Case Keenum and rising-star backup QB Jared Goff—the Rams inaugurate their preseason on August 13 at home against the Dallas Cowboys. On August 20, they’ll face off against the Kansas City Chiefs before hitting the road for games in Denver and Minneapolis. Their first opponents in the regular season? Their epic rivals the 49ers, awaiting them September 12 at Levi’s Stadium.

Also significantly, the Rams will play against the New York Giants on October 23 at London’s Twickenham Stadium, a venerable rugby stadium, as part of the NFL International Series.

Whether you’re watching right here on TV or you’re lucky enough to attend a game at Memorial Coliseum, make the Hotel Amarano your base camp for LA Rams fandom this exciting 2016 season!
