2017 Rose Bowl
The country’s most venerable and well-attended bowl game—the “Granddaddy of Them All,” as they say—is fast approaching, and as a guest at Hotel Amarano you’re just a hop, skip, and a jump (relatively speaking) from the gridiron contest!
The 2017 Rose Bowl, the 103rd iteration, will see the Nittany Lions of Penn State battle the University of Southern California Trojans on the legendary turf of Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena. The game kicks off at 2 PM on January 2, 2017: a Monday go-round this year, in accordance with the Rose Bowl (and general Tournament of Roses) tradition of not being held on those New Year’s Days that fall on a Sunday.
Two Teams Riding High
This’ll be the 34th Rose Bowl for USC, which has appeared more times in the game—and won it more often (24)—than any other team. In three previous appearances, meanwhile, Penn State has lost twice: both times (what do you know) to USC. The Trojans had a rocky start to the season, but have improved markedly in the past few months. And the Nittany Lions arrive in Pasadena with nine straight wins under their belt. It should be a fun matchup, to say the least.
And, needless to say, just experiencing Rose Bowl Stadium—one of America’s grandest and most esteemed sports venues—is something to write home about.
Rose Bowl Logistics
The Rose Bowl, of course, comes hot on the heels of the supersized morning pageantry of the Rose Parade (which begins at 8 AM). The parking lots at Rose Bowl Stadium open at 4 AM, and the gates at 11:30 AM; pregame commences at 1 PM. Unless you’re a glutton for punishment, driving to the game isn’t recommended: Instead, consider taking the Metro Gold Line to Parsons Parking Lot in Pasadena (at Union Street and De Lacey Avenue), where you can hop aboard the free shuttle over to the stadium.
