The Amarano Beat

Hotel Amarano Thanksgiving: Time for the Burbank YMCA Turkey Trot!

If it’s Thanksgiving, that means it’s time for the Burbank YMCA Turkey Trot! This fabulously fun 5K/10K charity event goes down on November 24 in downtown Burbank, which’ll see some 2,500 runners, joggers, walkers, stroller-pushers, and other participants completing the course at their own pace.

What better way to ready yourself for T-Day than with a little healthful outdoor exercise—the perfect prelude to the spirited gorge-fest of Thanksgiving dinner. (We reckon a 5K/10K run the day following Thanksgiving wouldn’t be pretty.)

Turkey Trotting for a Good Cause

The Turkey Trot’s an all-ages, all-ability-levels event that raises money for the Burbank YMCA’s suite of community offerings—the sort of worthy cause that well reflects the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday. Specifically, funds go to the non-profit’s Membership Assistance Program, which helps those who otherwise couldn’t afford to participate do so.

You don’t have to be a hardcore athlete by any means to join the proceedings, though you’ll certainly spy plenty of fleet runners among the ranks. You can even bring Fido to the course and put him through his sniffy paces—the whole point of the Turkey Trot is exercise of any level in the name of charity. And if you feel so inclined, you can join the costumed runners and walkers who always inject a little bit of pizzazz into the Trot.

The Schedule

The 2016 Turkey Trot kicks off with the competitive 5K/10K run at 7:30 AM at the YMCA building, the course veering through lovely downtown Burbank. (Check out a map of the Trot right here.) Five minutes later, 5K fun run/walk participants take to the route. At 9 AM, meanwhile, there’ll be a Kids Run especially for the smaller crowd—a contingent who’ll also be entertained by the Turkey Trot’s free Kids Fun Zone.
