The Return of The Rink in Downtown Burbank

Friday, December 8th, 2017

Burbank, California: moviemaking playground, home of the stars, city of sunshine—but winter wonderland? Not exactly.

But listen: That’s only if you’re talking about mountains of snow and ranks and ranks of icicles, which (sorry to disappoint) we don’t exactly specialize here. But you will find oodles of holiday cheer and plenty of seasonal festivities, and—believe it or not—some Grade A ice skating!

Rose Bowl Parade Hotel

Friday, November 10th, 2017

You won’t find a better place to kick off the New Year than Pasadena, California, which after all marks the segue to a new calendar with the blowout spectacle of the  Tournament of Roses Parade and the “Granddaddy of Them All” college football bowl.

Hotel Amarano puts you within shouting distance of the Rose Parade festivities (and the Rose Bowl itself), and now’s the time to book your guestroom or suite here at our boutique luxury Burbank hotel for the occasion!

The 129th Tournament of Roses Parade

The elegant horses, sumptuously decorated floats, well-oiled marching bands, and other fixtures of the Tournament of Roses Parade will get going at 8 AM on Monday, January 1, 2018. (The Rose Parade may be “America’s New Year Celebration,” but the 2017 edition had to invoke the event’s longstanding “Never on a Sunday” rule and fall on Monday the 2nd: This stems from the long-ago worry that a Sunday football game and its associated bustle would freak out horses tied up outside churches.)

The roughly 5 ½-mile-long parade route follows Orange Grove Boulevard, Colorado Boulevard, Sierra Madre Boulevard, and Villa Street. It’s about a two-hour-long affair and always an unforgettable one.

The theme for this year’s Rose Parade is “Making a Difference,” a celebration of those who selflessly contribute to their communities and of “the human acts of kindness that enrich the lives and others and are the source of inspiration, hope, joy, and optimism for all of us,” as Lance Tibbet, Tournament of Roses president, explains.

Well embodying that theme, actor-humanitarian Gary Sinise will serve as this year’s Tournament of Roses Grand Marshal. The 2018 Rose Queen, meanwhile, is Isabella Marez.

You can make a college try snagging a streetside vantage along the Tournament of Roses Parade route, or spring for Grandstand tickets.

The 2018 Rose Bowl

The very first Rose Bowl football game took place on January 1, 1902, when Michigan destroyed Stanford 49-0. Let’s hope this year’s bowl game, which follows on the heels of the Tournament of Roses Parade, is a bit more competitive! The 2018 teams will be announced on December 3.

Then you are, of course, looking forward to Halloween 2017!

And if this is true, it’s time to make your Halloween plans now — before time runs out! Where to go? We recommend Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights — sure to be the spookiest, eeriest, strangest Halloween event this side of the Mississippi!

What Is Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights?

This event is only for the most daring of Halloween horror-lovers. It all starts September 15th and lasts through November 5th. During this time, Universal Studios will transform into Halloween Horror every night. During the day, the park will continue to be non-horror themed and family friendly.

One of the main attractions of the event will be the multiple mazes that take theme inspiration from famous horror films like KrampusFreddy Vs. Jason, The Exorcist, Hell Comes to Haddonfield, American Horror Story, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and more.

Other attractions include “scare zones,” performances by Jabbawockeez, and the Terror Tram. You can even meet some of your favorite horror heroes, like Leatherface, Jason Voorhees, Regan MacNeil, Michael Myers, Freddie Krueger and more! And finally, don’t remember that all of you favorites Universal Studios rides will also be available for “nighttime scare rides” …

Things to Know About the Event

Here are a few things to keep in mind about this event:

  • Halloween Horror Nights is generally only for those 13 and older. Those younger than 13 years of age may be excessively frightened by the horror theme of the park.
  • Buy your tickets early! They often sell out for this amazing event, and you certainly won’t want to miss it!
  • It’s recommended that you print out your tickets to the event, but you can also bring your phone and have your ticket ready to be scanned at the entrance.
  • Special tickets, like the “Front of Line Ticket” and the “R.I.P. Tour” are available to let you jump to the front of the line on your favorite attractions and rides. Remember that these always sell out superfast, so get yours ahead of time.

Harry Potter Light Show at Universal Studios Hollywood

Tuesday, June 20th, 2017

Last year, Universal Studios Hollywood debuted to much fanfare—and the delight of legions of fans—its Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme zone. Now that tribute to J.K. Rowling’s epically popular boy-wizard and his adventures is going to ramp up its already extraordinary spectacle.

Beginning June 23, the theme park will launch the “Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle,” an afterhours light show that will run several times each evening. Given how stupendous the projections were that accompanied the 2016 opening of the Wizarding World, this upgrade is bound to be a new highlight (so to speak) of the world-class attraction.

And with boutique accommodations at the Hotel Amarano, you’re not only close at hand to the all-ages delights of Universal Studios Hollywood: We also offer an unbeatable package deal for taking advantage of the theme park and its cutting-edge Harry Potter installation.

The “Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle”

The brand-new light show at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will illuminate Hogwarts Castle—aka Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry—as well as nearby Hogsmeade Village. According to Universal Studios Hollywood, the light show “showcases the four houses of Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin that culminates with awesome beams of light that fan into the night sky.”

That visual wonderment comes accompanied by a high-classic soundtrack: a musical score written specially for the show by legendary composer John Williams (who wrote much of the music for the Harry Potter films) and recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.

The Nighttime Lights at Hogswart Castle will be the icing on the cake of the Wizarding World’s feast of attractions, which include the Harry Potter & the Forbidden Journey and Flight of the Hippogriff amusement rides and the interactive Ollivander’s Wand Shop.

Take in the Hogwarts Light Show With Hotel Amarano’s Universal Studios Hollywood Package

As a Preferred Hotel Partner of Universal Studios Hollywood, we here at the Hotel Amarano are proud to offer our guests a very special Universal Studios Hollywood Package. This fantastic deal provides you with a complimentary shuttle to the theme park and complimentary parking, a pair of one-day passes, and a pair of complimentary cocktails when you arrive—plus Early Park Admission to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

Come check out the brand-new illumination spectacle at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Harry Potter wonderland, and choose the very best in boutique luxury lodgings in the Entertainment Capital of the World at Hotel Amarano!
