Labor Day Weekend Events near Burbank Hotel
It’s a bit hard to believe, but somehow Labor Day Weekend—the spiritual close of summer, for many of us—is just around the corner. We hope you’ll spend the holiday weekend with us at Hotel Amarano, enjoying the best boutique hospitality the Media Capital of the World has to offer—and Greater L.A.’s fantastic lineup of Labor Day events!
Here’s a look at just four of the festivities you can partake of as a Hotel Amarano guest this Labor Day Weekend.
This massive arts-and-crafts fair, one of the very biggest in Southern California, has been a Hermosa Beach fixture since 1972. It’ll go down in the city’s downtown from August 31st through September 2nd, and besides the massive concentration of vendors will feature live music, a food court, a Kiddie Carnival, petting zoo, and other enticements.
If you’re a lover of classic movies, you’ll definitely want to check out the throwback treasures being screened during the Cinecon Classic Film Festival, which takes place August 29th through September 2nd at Hollywood’s Egyptian Theater—just a hop, skip, and a jump from Hotel Amarano! Among the many films being featured at this year’s Cinecon are The Golden Chance (1915), Laurel and Hardy’s A Perfect Day (1929), On the Avenue (1937), and Private Nurse (1941), plus the Opening Night Gala screening of the 1928 silent comedy Bare Knees with live orchestral accompaniment.
Cinecon also encompasses the Memorabilia Show, an almost incomparable marketplace for vintage silver-screen collectibles. The festival’s celebrity guests this year, meanwhile, include Barbara Rush, Ann Robinson, and Gigi Perreau.
Maestro of the Movies: The Music of John Williams at the Hollywood Bowl
As a guest here at Hotel Amarano, you’re also wonderfully close to one of America’s great performance venues: the world-famous Hollywood Bowl, tucked against the Hollywood Hills. Over Labor Day Weekend, the Bowl will host a celebration of some of the most iconic melodies in popular culture with Maestro of the Movies: The Music of John Williams. David Newman will conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic in this survey of Williams’ astonishing oeuvre, which ranges from the terrifying Jaws theme to the stirring scores of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.
John Williams himself will be a special guest during this homage, which’ll come complete with film clips.
Labor Day Weekend marks the kickoff of the Los Angeles County Fair, a City of Angels tradition since 1922. Check out our Amarano Beat overview of this year’s fair right here. Among the performers taking the fairground stage on the opening weekend are the O’Jays & The Spinners on August 30th and George Lopez on September 2nd.
