The Amarano Beat

Rose Bowl Parade Hotel

You won’t find a better place to kick off the New Year than Pasadena, California, which after all marks the segue to a new calendar with the blowout spectacle of the  Tournament of Roses Parade and the “Granddaddy of Them All” college football bowl.

Hotel Amarano puts you within shouting distance of the Rose Parade festivities (and the Rose Bowl itself), and now’s the time to book your guestroom or suite here at our boutique luxury Burbank hotel for the occasion!

The 129th Tournament of Roses Parade

The elegant horses, sumptuously decorated floats, well-oiled marching bands, and other fixtures of the Tournament of Roses Parade will get going at 8 AM on Monday, January 1, 2018. (The Rose Parade may be “America’s New Year Celebration,” but the 2017 edition had to invoke the event’s longstanding “Never on a Sunday” rule and fall on Monday the 2nd: This stems from the long-ago worry that a Sunday football game and its associated bustle would freak out horses tied up outside churches.)

The roughly 5 ½-mile-long parade route follows Orange Grove Boulevard, Colorado Boulevard, Sierra Madre Boulevard, and Villa Street. It’s about a two-hour-long affair and always an unforgettable one.

The theme for this year’s Rose Parade is “Making a Difference,” a celebration of those who selflessly contribute to their communities and of “the human acts of kindness that enrich the lives and others and are the source of inspiration, hope, joy, and optimism for all of us,” as Lance Tibbet, Tournament of Roses president, explains.

Well embodying that theme, actor-humanitarian Gary Sinise will serve as this year’s Tournament of Roses Grand Marshal. The 2018 Rose Queen, meanwhile, is Isabella Marez.

You can make a college try snagging a streetside vantage along the Tournament of Roses Parade route, or spring for Grandstand tickets.

The 2018 Rose Bowl

The very first Rose Bowl football game took place on January 1, 1902, when Michigan destroyed Stanford 49-0. Let’s hope this year’s bowl game, which follows on the heels of the Tournament of Roses Parade, is a bit more competitive! The 2018 teams will be announced on December 3.
